  • What is the TMJ?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is your jaw joint that resides just beside your ears. Unfortunately, the TMJ is often misunderstood and misinformed as being a diagnosis. We all have two TMJs, one on each side - it is not a diagnosis, it is anatomy.
  • Do I need a referral to book an assessment?
A referral is not needed to book an assessment. However, many of our patients are referred by their doctor, dentist, etc. A referral may be needed to be reimbursed by your health benefits plan so it is always best practice to review your coverage options.
  • Who will conduct my initial assessment?
One of our trained Chiropractors or Physiotherapist will conduct your initial assessment, provide a diagnosis, and recommend the best treatment plan to resolve your current issue. If you have been referred to a specific practitioner from your dentist or doctor, that practitioner will oversee your care!
  • If I am late or miss my appointment, will I be charged?"
We have a 48-hour (2 business day) cancellation policy in our office. You will be charged the full price of your appointment if you do not cancel/reschedule before the 48-hour period. If you are late for your appointment, the practitioner may not be able to provide effective and safe treatment, please be on time as we book our appointments back-to-back. There are exceptions such as family emergencies or sickness, and we are accommodating and will try our best to reschedule you if possible. Please call our office at 416-972-6279 if you are unable to make your appointment or if you are running late.
  • Will anyone manipulate or "crack" my jaw?"
Our treatment approach for jaw and facial pain does not include manipulations of the jaw. We treat by a variety of soft tissue massage, therapeutic exercises, bio-mechanic techniques, light mobilizations, and patient education.
  • How long are appointments?
Your assessment will be 30-45 minutes. Follow-up treatment appointments are typically 15 minutes in length but may be extended if there are other areas of concern. Jaw treatments are typically shorter in length because the muscles we are working on are quite small and can't tolerate the same duration as bigger muscle groups in the body.
  • Are the treatments covered under health benefit plans?
Most health benefit plans through employer or individual insurance will cover our services. The patient is required to pay the treatment fee after their session and is issued a receipt to submit to their insurer for reimbursement. We do not directly bill the insurance company on behalf of the patient. It is always best to become familiar with your insurance plan prior to starting care.
  • Can you prescribe mouth guards or splints?
It is not within our scope of practice to prescribe or fit for mouth guards. If we believe this is warranted we will work closely with your preferred dental team to ensure the proper device is made for you. If you don't have a dentist we can assist with that as well!
